Former heavyweight boxing champion admits afterwards he thought he'd be more popular with viewers

Former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield became the first contestant of the series to be evicted from Celebrity Big Brother on Friday night.

The US star, who was warned by bosses of the Channel 5 show earlier this week after claiming being gay "ain't normal", was left in the bottom two with The Apprentice runnerup Luisa Zissman after receiving the fewest votes from the public.

Holyfield, 51, looked dejected as he was chosen to leave by fellow housemates Lee Ryan and Casey Batchelor, who spent the previous two days hidden in a secret bolt hole after Big Brother staged a fake eviction.

The boxer, who famously lost part of his ear when he was bitten by Mike Tyson during a title bout in 1997, was greeted by cheers as he left the house but admitted afterwards he thought he would be more popular with viewers.

He told presenter Emma Willis: "I thought I'd be loved here, I thought I'd get more votes, but I didn't."

Holyfield, who was handcuffed to Zissman, 26, when they entered the house, claimed the entrepreneur changed once their handcuffs were removed.

"As soon as the handcuffs were over, she went her own way and she was a lot different," he said.

Mail On Sunday columnist Liz Jones, comedian Jim Davidson and US actress Jasmine Waltz also avoided eviction in the public vote.

Blue singer Ryan and glamour model Batchelor have now returned to the house after their stint in the bolt hole.

Earlier on the show, Holyfield told housemates that he once punched a horse. Former Marie Claire editor Jones told him: "If you punched my horse I'd stab you." Reported by guardian.co.uk 4 hours ago.
