Just over 2 million viewers watched Sam Evans' victory, helping broadcaster to rare all-day-share ratings victory over rival

Just over 2 million viewers tuned in the Big Brother final on Channel 5 on Monday night, helping the broadcaster to a rare all-day-share ratings victory over Channel 4.

The audience for the first part of the final – 9pm to 10pm – attracted an average of 2.1 million viewers and a 9.5% share in its slot. The show had a five-minute peak of 2.56 million viewers.

Big Brother's second outing on Monday night, which aired from 10.55pm to 11.30pm, attracted an average of 1.6 million viewers and a 14.5% share of audience, as Sam Evans emerged as the 2013 winner.

The last hurrah for Big Brother 2013 helped Channel 5 to a 5.8% all day share of viewing, against Channel 4's 5%.

Last August, Olympic fever contributed to the lowest-ever audience for a Big Brother final, with an average of 1.5 million tuning in.

The 23-year-old Evans, who donated 25% of his £100,000 prize to charity, was unveiled as the winner by Emma Willis in the second part of the final programme. The second show had a five-minute peak of 1.9 million.

Channel 5 used the Big Brother sandwich to launch its latest US import, a TV adaptation of Stephen King's sci-fi novel Under the Dome.

The opener of the 13-part series, which aired from 10pm to 10.55pm, averaged 2 million viewers and an 11.8% share.

Under the Dome was up against Channel 4's Ramsay's Hotel Hell, which attracted an audience of 1.2 million and a 7.3% share between 10pm and 11pm.

A new cooking series on BBC2, The Incredible Spice Men, attracted 1.5 million and a 6.5% share between 8.30pm and 9pm.
